Geneva Helps Bring Heartwarming Health Tale to the Big Screen 27 June 2025 In the far-flung Chatham Islands (known as Rēkohu by Moriori and Wharekauri by Māori), access to something as critical as breast cancer screening requires more than just a local appointment. For the women living in this remote corner of Aotearoa, it means a biennial flight to Ōtautahi Christchurch, a whirlwind journey aboard the affectionately named “Boobie Bus”, and a shared experience that blends courage, humour, and connection. This story is the heart of Girls’ Flight Out, an upcoming short film slated for release in 2026 and proudly sponsored by Geneva Healthcare. A Serious Message Wrapped in Heart and Humour Girls’ Flight Out documents a real, ongoing health initiative bringing eligible Chatham Islands wāhine to the mainland for mammograms – screenings that simply aren’t available on the islands. The film captures the unique spirit of these women as they prepare for and undertake the journey, combining shopping sprees and shared laughter with life-saving medical care. Girls’ Flight Out provides a rare behind-the-scenes look at BreastScreen South’s screening programme, showcasing the commitment of healthcare workers who ensure no woman is left behind, regardless of geography. It also shines a light on the powerful emotional impact that early detection and accessible screening can have – not just for these wāhine, but for women across the motu. Geneva Healthcare’s Commitment As a major sponsor of Girls’ Flight Out, Geneva Healthcare is proud and excited to support a project that so clearly aligns with its mission: achieving equitable wellbeing for everyone. In backing this film, we want to help elevate the voices of underserved communities and highlight the pressing need for equity in women’s health services. Supporting this film also reinforces Geneva Healthcare’s longstanding belief that healthcare should reach people where they are – not the other way around. Whether that’s through home-based care or helping shine a spotlight on initiatives like the Chathams screening journey, we are proud to stand behind solutions that work for real New Zealanders. A Celebration of Resilience With heartfelt personal stories, plenty of trademark Chathams wit, and a passionate Kiwi production team behind the scenes, Girls’ Flight Out is designed for audiences with a taste for authentic Kiwi stories and a passion to see positive change in the world. The film will conclude as the audience’s new friends fly home – some with life-changing news ahead, all with their heads held high. The Geneva team are truly honoured to have a part in bringing this story to screens. We’ll be keeping you up to date with more news about Girls’ Flight Out as it emerges, and we’re excited to experience this warmly human reminder that in Aotearoa, no woman should be out of reach when it comes to life-saving care.
