Silver Medalist NZ Special Olympic Athlete’s Message to Colour Cruise Racers 28 June 2019 James is a New Zealand Special Olympic Athlete who has represented New Zealand in Powerlifting at the Special Olympics games in Abu Dhabi 2019. He gave a motivating yet hilarious speech for the Colour Cruise 2019 – telling everyone to “Move your eyes from my handsome smile” and “I’m not just talking about the very long flight there and back. Did I mention that it’s a very long flight?” Everyone was in laughing away as his speech was hilarious. Then he got onto a more serious topic of conversation. Before his time with the Special Olympics, he wasn’t allowed to be on any team purely because of his intellectual disability; the only job he could help out with was to be a water boy. But now he has a new lease of life: “When I discovered the Special Olympics, that changed my life. Now I take part in Sports and now I don’t need to watch from the side lines.” His speech was incredible; thank you James for sharing your story to help motivate everyone competing, and to inspire everyone to live their best life.
