Support Worker – Lower Hutt

Are you looking for a rewarding job to help a client live his best life? Geneva Healthcare is currently looking for Support Workers who are compassionate and resilient to join our team in Lower Hutt. You’ll be supporting a 15-year-old boy with health needs including autism, an intellectual disability and suffers from Nocturnal Frontal Lobe Epilepsy. He experiences seizures during sleep and needs caring individuals to help him feel safe and supported, especially during times of distress.

Shifts are wake-over shifts: Sunday to Wednesday, 9:00 PM – 6:00 AM

As a Support Worker you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Monitoring seizure activity and note taking
  • Suctioning and administering oxygen when needed
  • Monitoring key tone levels
  • Assisting with personal cares and house hold management tasks
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Mobility assistance
  • Providing companionship, reassurance and emotional support

Requirements:

  • Level 3 or 4 qualification preferred
  • Health care background and or experience in mental health
  • Must be a team player
  • Able to commit to shifts
  • Experience with seizure management preferred
  • Experience with challenging behaviours preferred
  • Good standard of English
  • Be a good communicator, patient and calm
  • Enjoy working with children
  • Honest, reliable with complete integrity
  • Must have a clean and valid Full driver’s license & own transport
  • NZ citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid work visa (with at least 12 months remaining)
  • Subject to clean police clearance check
