Showing up when it matters most – Geneva Staffing

Six years ago, New Zealand entered its first COVID‑19 lockdown – a moment none of us will ever forget. That anniversary has us reflecting not just on how far the country has come, but on the extraordinary work our teams delivered, and why it continues to shape who we are today.

When COVID first emerged, uncertainty was everywhere. District Health Boards were understandably cautious. No one knew exactly what was coming – or how to prepare for it. But because of our long‑standing reputation and trusted relationships, Geneva Staffing was asked to take on something others were reluctant to touch.

We helped establish New Zealand’s first quarantine centre at Whangaparaoa for people repatriated from Wuhan. It was the country’s earliest frontline response, and we were there. As borders tightened, our work expanded. We supported border health assessments for all arrivals entering New Zealand, helping create a safer pathway into the country at a time when the world felt incredibly unpredictable. That experience led to one of our most significant contributions: helping to stand up and manage the country’s Managed Isolation Facilities (MIQ). For more than six months, we fully operated these facilities, until it became clear that COVID wasn’t ending anytime soon and DHBs took over formal leadership. Even then, we stayed on – ensuring continuity, support, and stability for staff and guests during the transition.

As vaccination programmes rolled out, our teams were once again on the ground, delivering support across a range of national vaccination initiatives. Before RAT tests were readily available in every household, we also provided on‑site employee testing for organisations needing to keep their essential operations running safely.

Does anyone remember the media storm around nurses being paid $50 an hour? We were at the centre of that conversation. At the time, it sparked outrage. But looking back, it was a turning point – one that helped shift public expectations, advocate for proper recognition of nursing expertise, and pave the way for pay rates that are now considered standard for experienced RNs. We’re proud to have played a part in that change.

Across the years, we’ve been trusted with some of the most challenging, meaningful, and impactful work in New Zealand healthcare. Work that many clinicians may never have the chance to experience anywhere else – and that’s something we don’t take lightly.

So, why work with us?

Because it’s more than “just agency work.”

It’s about being there for moments that matter.

It’s about being trusted when things are hard.

It’s about being recognised, supported, and backed to do your best work.

If you’re looking for a career that offers more than just shifts on a roster – a career where your skills, resilience, and compassion contribute to something bigger – Geneva Staffing might just be your place.
