Our nurses. Our future. Empowered nurses save lives.

International Nurses Day on 12 May is a chance to recognise the nurses who make a real difference in people’s lives every day – in homes, in communities, and wherever care is needed most.

At Geneva Healthcare, nurses are at the heart of what we do. They bring clinical expertise, calm reassurance, and genuine care to people navigating illness, injury, disability, and recovery. Often, they are supporting people in their own homes – where comfort, dignity, and trust matter most.

No two days are the same. One moment might be a planned visit, the next an urgent response. Nurses are constantly assessing needs, adapting quickly, and delivering care in situations that can be complex, unpredictable, and deeply personal. It’s skilled work, and it’s human work.

What stands out most is how much nursing is about connection. It’s taking the time to listen, to reassure, and to support not just the person receiving care, but their whānau as well. That presence can make a difficult moment feel more manageable.

This year’s International Nurses Day theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” reflects something we see every day: when nurses are supported, they’re able to focus on what they do best – delivering safe, consistent, compassionate care.

Support can look different for everyone. It might be having the right resources on hand, flexible ways of working, strong clinical support behind them, or simply knowing they’re part of a team that values their mahi and has their back.

At Geneva Healthcare, supporting nurses is part of how we work every day. It means listening, responding, and making sure our teams have what they need to care for people well – whether that’s in-home support, community nursing, or specialist care services.

When nurses are well supported, the difference is clear. Care becomes more consistent. People feel more confident. And whānau feel more at ease knowing their loved ones are in safe hands.

To all our nurses across Aotearoa – thank you. Your skill, care, and commitment make a real difference in people’s lives every day.

We’re proud to work alongside you, and proud of the care you deliver in homes and communities across the country – today and every day.
