Geneva Elevator Helps Persons With Disabilities To Find Employment

A #ChangeDayNZ Pledge Project That Works

Last week the Geneva Elevator team led by Vikki Perana, Employment Services Manager, worked together with Rebecca Stunton, Ministry Of Social Development; and Jannette Hennings, Path Nurse; to help local businesses in Auckland employ persons with disabilities by promoting the Ministry of Social Development’s Disability Confident campaign.

Change Day is about doing something, no matter how big or small, to improve the healthcare experience for every Kiwi. The team carried out their Change Day Pledge Project with enthusiasm and passion by continuing to work in the community and educate employers about how they can have a successful and diverse workforce.

“Geneva Elevator thrive on getting out and meeting with employers to help them with creating a diverse workforces across all industries”, says Vikki Perana, Geneva Elevator Employment Services Manager.

When the team were asked about their advice for others who want to help they said: “First understand the Client’s story from a their perspective. Try to not assume to know their barriers or how their disability affects them, and educate yourself by asking them to explain things in their own words. Once you have the knowledge, you can then better support them and make a difference to them, and in turn the wider community.”

Geneva Elevator supports persons with disability, injury or health concerns through rehabilitation, skills training, and job placement so they can enjoy living independently in their community.
