Darrell has extensive experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, gained whilst working in hospitals and private practices in the United States and New Zealand. His special interests are lower back and neck pain: he continues to pursue further study in these areas as well as general musculoskeletal physiotherapy (the McKenzie method in particular) to expand his skills and experience so you can get the best possible treatment. Darrell has been part of the Coast Orewa Physio Team since 2017.
Claire graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science (Physiotherapy) from Auckland University of Technology. She has a keen interest in musculoskeletal rehab and biomechanics and is passionate about helping others recover so they can return to the activities which are important to them. She has been involved in many sports and performing arts over the years, including ballet, gymnastics, netball, and athletics. Currently she is learning circus skills on aerial silks.
Natalie has over 20 years’ experience working in private practice, initially as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist prior to specialising in hand therapy. She has post graduate qualifications in Hand Therapy, Western Acupuncture, and in Pain and Pain Management.
Natalie has a keen interest in hand therapy and acupuncture. She attempts to tailor her treatments to the person, in the hope of minimising the limitations that injuries can cause.
She enjoys mountain biking, swimming, and time with family.
Jacki Piper qualified as a physiotherapist from the Otago School of Physiotherapy in 1969 and went on to do a post graduate diploma in manipulative physiotherapy in the early 1980’s. Since then, Jacki has attended postgraduate courses on a continuing basis for the benefit of her clients, who receive the most appropriate and up to date treatment. She started her own physiotherapy practice in Titirangi in the early eighties and sold in 2002: during this time, as well as doing “hands on” musculoskeletal and rehabilitation physiotherapy, she was also the physiotherapist for a national league men’s basketball team. For the last ten years as well as doing “hands on” physiotherapy, she has been doing gym based rehabilitation for ACC clients who have either loss of physical function or chronic pain as their main problem.
Jacki is passionate about keeping physically fit and doing the activities she enjoys, and is keen to help other people do the same. Her main recreational activities are kite surfing, trail bike riding, and stand up paddleboarding – more occasionally windsurfing, mountain biking, kayaking, running, tramping, skiing, wakeboarding and fishing.
Pete has been a Sports and Spinal Physiotherapist for over 30 years. In the last 10 years he has specialised in Hand Therapy, applying his practical problem solving approach to hand, wrist, and elbow problems.
He has been involved with age group and college sport as a Sports Physiotherapist and understands the commitment and support required to manage sports injuries.
He enjoys the outdoors, particularly while tramping, sailing, and cycling.
Nathan is Coast Physio’s Clinical Director. He has a keen interest in sports physiotherapy, with over 15 years’ experience and postgraduate qualifications at Masters level. He has travelled with Touch NZ on numerous overseas tours and is currently working with Silverdale and North Harbour Rugby. He prides himself in his people skills, diagnostic ability and implementing effective treatment.
Dani has seven years’ experience working in physio, with a biomechanics background and a special interest in sports and athlete development, including youth in sport. Prior to having a child, Dani has played netball and tennis to a regional level, and beach volleyball and volleyball to an international level, which sparked her interest in injury prevention through optimum biomechanics.
Her prior work includes golf physiotherapy , high school sevens rugby and volleyball sports physio, as well as working in a medical practice with general population injuries and post surgical rehab. She prides herself on evidence-based best practice and implementing patient-centred rehab protocols.
Jessica graduated in 2011 from AUT with a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Physiotherapy). Since then, she has worked in both public and private settings. She is a pelvic health physiotherapist, certified under Melissa Davidson. As a pelvic health physiotherapist, she is able to help people who have problems with incontinence, pelvic pain, tail bone pain and more. She also has a special interest in helping children who are having problems with day or night-time incontinence.
John graduated in 1985 with postgraduate qualifications including manipulative therapy, and has developed a depth of experience and excellent diagnostic skills. Treating the problem and using exercise to prevent recurrence is key to his approach in keeping you fit and active. A keen yachtsman and runner, his areas of expertise are the spine and shoulder, using an exercise / Pilates based approach.
Maree is currently working part time at the Whangaparaoa branch of Coast Physio. Over the past 20 years she has spent time in each of Coast Physio’s clinics, interspersed with travel and spells doing relieving work in Queensland.
Maree has a special interest in neck and back pain, headaches, and breathing pattern disorders. She enjoys diagnosing presenting problems and often uses acupuncture and dry needling in her treatment approach, followed up with massage and appropriate stretching and strengthening exercises.
Outside of work, Maree enjoys bush walking, sailing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren both here in Auckland and on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
Jenna graduated from Auckland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Health Sciences: Physiotherapy. She has previously worked in Childcare as a Support teacher and doing Toddler sports coaching. She completed her Physiotherapy Placements at Auckland City Hospital in the Cardiothoracic Unit, Central Auckland Specialist School, and Kowhai Physiotherapy in Warkworth.
Jenna has an interest in biomechanics and rehabilitation with any level of activity or injury.
She lives locally and enjoys spending the evenings walking on the beach with her dogs.
Mandy trained as a physiotherapist in London, qualifying in 1985, where she went on to work in large teaching hospitals. Her last job in the UK was running the Sports Clinic for Cambridge University. Moving to NZ in 1990, Mandy set up her own clinic in Mairangi Bay specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. At this time she completed further education in Manual Therapy and Acupuncture.
After some time off to bring up two children, she retrained as a Hand Therapist and opened another clinic on the North Shore. Working alongside a Hand Surgeon, she had two busy clinics. At this time she was involved with teaching hand therapy, specialising in teaching elbow therapy to post-graduate physios and hand therapists. Now semi-retired, Mandy is working part time here at Coast.
Mandy’s interests out of work include cycling, skiing, watercolour painting, pottery and gardening.
Sana graduated in 2016 from Aza Naheed Medical College, Superior University, with a Bachelor of Allied Health Science (Doctor of Physiotherapy). She has worked in both hospital and private practice settings. Since moving to New Zealand from Pakistan, she has worked at Waihi Beach Physiotherapy, before moving north with her family to Orewa when she started with Coast Physiotherapy.
Clinically, Sana’s interest and experience includes musculoskeletal and neuromuscular rehabilitation, occupational health (including pre-employment screenings) and taking an exercise-based approach to rehabilitation. Sana enjoys working with patients and creating a unique rehabilitation plan with each person to help with recovery from injury.
