Highly skilled and experienced Support Worker – Nelson
Registered or enrolled nurse preferably or someone who has extensive experience in caring for a complex, medically fragile child.
We are looking for a kind, caring, warm person to care and support a child who has cerebral Palsy and is in fragile health. Ideally we are seeking a registered nurse or someone who has a medical/ paediatric background or experience in caring for complex kids.
Skill set required:
- Reliable, honest and organised
- Can work comfortably within a family environment while maintaining personal boundaries and show respect.
- Have a good sense of humour
- Observational and listening skills with good attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
Requirements:
- Full drivers licence
- Non-smoker.
- Physically able
- Be a NZ citizen/permanent resident or have a relevant work or student visa
- Can satisfactorily pass a Police Vetting for Vulnerable Children’s Act
- Provide two work related (manager) referees
- Access to a computer with Wi-Fi for further on-line learning
- Be able to start immediately

Duties Include but not limited to:
- All personal cares for a child who is non-verbal and has spastic quad cerebral palsy
- Bathing, hair washing
- Medical care-often at a nursing level
- Medication administration, tube feeding
- Respiratory care, O2 therapy and some basic chest physiotherapy exercises
- Hoisting and positioning management
- Communication and play/recreational activities (local walks, baking, occasional outings) - training will be provided.
Hours available 15-20+hrs per week, week days, weekends and some nights. There is some flexibility in the roster.
